12 Weeks!

Ok, so I want to keep track of everything, and I have discovered that my blog is a great way to do that. Therefore, I'm stealing the pregnancy updater stuff everyone seems to use. I'm not going to do weekly updates, but I'm thinking I might do them every 4 weeks since those seem to carry important milestones for me. Let's be totally honest, not that much changes from week to week, at least not in this pregnancy. And I certainly will NOT be doing belly shots to post on here. You're welcome. :) Here we go!

12 Weeks!

Size of Baby: Plum (according to The Bump)

Total Weight Gain/Loss: According to my doctor's visit Monday, I've lost 13 pounds since I was there in July. Who knew you just had to get pregnant and start hating food?

Maternity Clothes: I'm really close to needing some preggo pants. Even though I've lost 13 lbs, it's like my body is shifting. I can still wear most of my pants, but they're getting a little tighter.

Gender: No idea. Most of the old wives' tales and my gut say it's a boy. The heartbeat has been in the 165 range, and that usually means girl. The Chinese predictor says girl, but let's be honest. I don't believe any of them! I think we should find out in January.

Movement: I'm still a ways away from feeling anything (I think), but he/she did kick the Doppler when we were listening to the heartbeat at the doctor's appointment on Monday. There was a strong, steady heartbeat and then a loud thump. My doctor's eyes got wide and she said, "He just kicked us!" Sure enough, he (or she) did it again a few seconds later. It's so strange to think it's moving around that much, but I can't feel it.

Sleep: is not so bueno. I've been trying to sleep on my side, but I hate it. The only way I feel comfortable is on my back, which I never normally do, and it's apparently no good for you the further you get. I'm really thinking about investing in a pregnancy pillow.

What I miss: Honestly, nothing. I just feel thankful to be here. I got over missing caffeine pretty early. If I had to say something, I'd probably say being able to dye my hair. The grays are out in full force. I'll probably be white headed by the end of this thing.

Cravings: Nothing! I've had aversions instead of cravings so far. Absolutely nothing sounds good, and if it does it's usually bland carbs like potatoes or rice. My appetite is slowly coming back the farther I go though.

Symptoms: Once the bleeding stopped, this shindig has been pretty easy. (Sidenote: I have now been bleeding free for a full month. Woohoo!) At first I was completely exhausted, and I would get queasy a lot. (I've only gotten sick twice.) I still get tired pretty early at night, but it's not like I'm aching to take a nap at 2:00 in the afternoon anymore. I've had some lower backache, heartburn, and some weird stretching/pulling feelings, which is supposedly normal. My weirdest symptom would be that my belly button is sore. ??? It's not a body part I normally think of, but it's been bugging me the past couple of days. I've definitely had mood swings. (sorry, jus) When I get mad it's like the Wrath of Leslie comes to town. I don't like it, and I know the hubs doesn't either. I've had a bad case of pregnancy brain too. I mix up words or can't think of them. My desk is covered in sticky notes trying to help me stay on top of things.

Best Moment This Week: Besides getting to hear the heartbeat again and having a great appointment, I'd have to say it was when my doctor told me that I now have less than a 5% chance of miscarriage. It's like that lifted a weight off of my shoulders. She encouraged me to start planning and getting things going, so it made it feel truly real.

Misc. :

  • I've been thinking a lot about nursery ideas. I think we've nailed down a color scheme for either a girl or a boy. I'm finding it hard to really find stuff I like since I do not want to do a theme. I'll share when I have a more definite plan.

  • Some of our best friends are also pregnant. They're a month and 2 days ahead of us. It makes going through the process 10 times more fun. God is so good. His timing is perfect.

  • Conversations with Justin about baby stuff have been hilarious. I've had to convince him of everything from having to wash a baby's clothes separate from our own to the fact that pregnancy brain is fo' realz. We also had to have a lesson on what a bassinet is. I love going through this with him though. If anyone can find humor in the smallest things it is him. I could not ask for a better partner or daddy-to-be.

So happy for you! Watch your kiddos...they'll point out all kinds of prego brain mis-haps...or at least mine did! Can't wait to hear what you're having. I know you guys are so ecstatic either way!
