Several weeks ago I got a text from my sister saying a local artist (who also teaches the local swim lessons in the summer) was going to be having a fall pumpkin painting class and would I want to go. I immediately jumped at the chance. Who doesn't love fall, pumpkins, and craftiness? Well, it was schedule for the day after our never ending ER trip, so I was not quite sure I was going to go. I ended up going even though I felt like total garbage, and this was the result.
I painted that! Granted I had lots of instruction and she totally fixed my curly-qs, but the rest is all original. I love it! The teacher paints an example and goes through all of the steps with you. Then, she walks around and gives you feed back. She might even have to "photo shop" a spot or two, but the majority of the work is all yours. It was so funny to see how differently every one's pumpkins turned out even though we were given the same instructions. It was so much fun! The same group has already signed up to do a winter picture in a couple of weeks. It turned out that I knew almost everyone there because I either went to school with them, grew up with their kid, or had their kid in my class (Or they were my mom and sister!) so there was lots of chatting going on.

Our fall pumpkin group.
Before I had even done the pumpkin class, a couple of teachers from school (and Kelly) decided to book our own Arty Party and do a Christmas scene. We met up last night for some food, beverages (non-adult for me), and some painting fun!
This was my painting about 3/4 of the way through.
Our Christmas tree group.
The ones on the front row followed our inspiration picture the closest. Holly, Kelly, and I were the rebels that used colors specific to our houses. It was funny again how differently every one's turned out. I couldn't get the cute little whimsy tree like Kelly had for anything. It turned out though that the mistakes I kept making ended up in a painting I really loved.
This is probably one of my most favorite things I have done in a long time. I know I'm a somewhat crafty person, but I think there's a big difference between that and being artistic. I love learning the techniques from Dana. I'm learning how to "see" the picture and create it from nothing, which is really fun for me. Who knows? Maybe I'll even end up painting something for the future-Bambino's room.
